Manny Pacquiao Next Fight News: Mayweather and Marquez Up Next For Filipino Champion?
Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao is currently on a promotional tour with WBO junior welterweight title-holder Chris Algieri for their November 23 welterweight-title fight at the Cotai Arena in Macau.
The world boxing champions were in Macau on Monday, August 26, before moving on to Shanghai the day after. Pacquiao and Algieri will be flying off to the US for promotional events in New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas within the next two weeks. This is the first fight between Pacquiao and the 30-year-old undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion.
After his Macau fight with Algieri, the 35-year-old world-boxing titleholder is once again likely to face Juan Manuel Marquez in the boxing ring for the fifth time. Top Rank boss Bob Arum previously stated that they are hopeful that they could put the two boxing fighters in the same ring by next year. Marquez managed to defeat Pacquiao in their 2012 match via knockout.
The fight that boxing fans truly await, however, is that of the two greatest boxers of their time - Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
Pacquiao's promoters have tried repeatedly to get Mayweather, who currently has a perfect 46-0 boxing record, to fight Pacquiao in the boxing ring, but have been left disappointed time and time again.
According to reports, disagreement between the two boxing camp's promoters who deal with rival pay-per-view networks has hindered the highly anticipated fight to materialize. Pacquiao's Top Rank deals exclusively with HBO while Mayweather's Golden Boy Promotions is with Showtime.
Another factor that is said to be a hindrance is Pacquiao's drug-testing procedures while training, which Mayweather was not so keen about. Additionally, Pacquiao later on tried to fix the situation by agreeing on an Olympic-style drug testing procedure.
