Manchester United Transfer Rumors: Van Gaal Wants to Sign In Angel Di Maria, Juan Cuadrado, Mats Hummels, Daley Blind
Manchester United fans were excited when the Dutch coach, Louis Van Gaal, joined their club earlier this year, but the Dutch manager's debut with Old Trafford did not go as expected.
Many were of the view that after a tremendous performance in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Van Gaal's 3-5-2 formation will produce a terrific impact in the English Premier League as well. However, Van Gaal had stated earlier that United was not complete and lacked effective players in some positions.
United's 2-1 defeat to Swansea in a friendly match on their home ground has revealed some gaping holes in the team and now Van Gaal's biggest challenge is to try and fix the problems. He needs to get rid of some players and sign in some world-class footballers to strengthen his team.
For instance, the match against Swansea revealed that Javier Hernandez is a disaster. While Robin Van Persie would have done well if he had played in the game, the Mexican national team forward hardly contributed to help his side. Hernandez went missing for long stretches, eventually proving that he just does not belong. So Van Gaal's first business would be to sell him, and fast.
Even the team's midfield lacks the vigor and potential. All four midfielders - Jesse Lindgard, Ashley Young, Darren Fletcher and even recent acquisition Ander Herrera failed to live up to their reputations. While Herrera is likely to pay dividends in the future, he is not able to carry this team right now.
Marouane Fellaini, Adnan Januzaj and Nani did put up decent performances as substitutes, but they hardly helped to improve the situation in their respective positions. Now Van Gaal wants Argentinian winger Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid and Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado from Florentina to fix the wing play and also the be in charge on the pitch.
Di Maria is a marvelous and creative player who would put Young and Lindgard to shame. The Argentinian also proved that he has the ability to play in the middle of the field for Real Madrid, and, hence, he may possibly be a more capable partner for Herrera than Fletcher.
Van Gaal is also considering signing in the Dutch left back, Daley Blind, from AFC Ajax. In fact, the Dutchman proved to be a revelation for Van Gaal during the World Cup and if the Red Devils succeed in acquiring him, it would certainly pay huge dividends for the club.
Despite the decent performance of Tyler Blackett, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in the last match, United definitely requires a top end center back. Van Gaal's 3-5-2 is not going to work without a world class center back. Therefore, the club is now said to have targeted German footballer Mats Hummels.
