Manchester United Transfer News: Arjen Robben a Target for Manager Louis van Gaal

Although Louis van Gaal has yet to officially take over as the Manchester United manager - his actual duties will start only when he finishes his role as the Netherland's boss after the FIFA 2014 World Cup - nevertheless, as far as Manchester United's summer recruitment is concerned, the Dutch coach is already facing obstacles in his new role.

Even though Gaal has not spent much time with his new English squad, the Dutchman has been quick to learn about potential targets that he can acquire to boost his team when he is officially installed. One of the major obstacles he faces is the lack of European football his team will be involved with next season due to previous manager David Moyes' failure to lead the team to a top 5 finish or a major cup final.

As a result, Gaal is facing roadblocks in his quest for Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben and Yevhen Konoplyanka of Dnipro.

Robben has been loosely connected with a move to Old Trafford, where he would be reuniting with his national team manager, but the FC Bayern Munich player has clearly told the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that he has no intention of leaving his present club right now.

"That's not an option. I'm staying with Bayern Munich. Period. I cannot imagine why Bayern would want to lose me. I just renewed my contract and we are happy with each other," Robben said.

He added, "It's very different when you're not completely happy. I had a fantastic time with Van Gaal at FC Bayern and know what I have with him. Van Gaal and Guardiola are the best trainers I have worked with. I feel good so will stay where I am. The chance is zero that I make the switch."

Meanwhile, it has been rumored that United are keen to recruit Patrick Roberts, who is making a reputation for himself at club and international level. Roberts has been responsible for leading England's young brigade to victory at the European Under-17 Championship.

The Fulham striker is said to be keen to move from Craven Cottage following his club's relegation to the Championship. According to a report in the Mirror, the West Londoners are insisting on £15 million (roughly US $25 million) for his services.
