If latest reports are to be believed, Maleficent, Disney's the most famous witch, will soon return to the silver screen, as a sequel to the live-action retelling of Maleficent's story is said to be currently under development.

Citing a report in The Warp, Latin Post reports that Linda Woolverton, who wrote the screenplay for the original 'Maleficent' movie, is reportedly in talks with executives at Disney for the second installment. According to the report, when the deal is confirmed, Woolverton will begin writing the screenplay for 'Maleficent 2' hoping that Angelina Jolie will return to reprise her role as Maleficent.

As of now, there is no deal between the Academy Award actress and the studio and, hence, it is not yet clear whether Jolie will agree to do the Disney movie sequel. In fact, Jolie is reported to be somewhat cautious in working in film sequels following reports that the second movie of the 'Tomb Raider' series did not perform according to expectations at the box office.

According to The Wrap, the studios that made successful films like 'Wanted' and 'Salt' with Jolie also wanted to make sequels for both films, but the 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' star reportedly turned down the proposals.

However, it is expected that Jolie might change her mind keeping in view the fact that 'Maleficent' is among her favorite characters. In fact, during the premiere of 'Maleficent' in China, Jolie indicated the possibility of again donning the black cape and staff carried by the witch originally from 'Sleeping Beauty.'

When asked if she will be a part of the sequel, the 40-year-old actress told The Hollywood Reporter, "It's kind of hard to top her, and she was pretty fun. Maybe I'll get a chance to play her again."

Meanwhile, although Robert Stromberg will not be directing 'Maleficent' sequel, the studio is yet to announce a new name. On the other hand, Joe Roth will be back to produce the sequel.

As of now, it is not certain if Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple, Imelda Staunton, Brenton Thwaites and Sam Riley will reprise their roles in 'Maleficent 2.'
