Malaysia Airlines Missing Plane: Flight 370 American Passenger Philip Wood Described as 'Man of God'

Philip Wood, a 50-year-old father of two and IBM executive, as one of the three Americans aboard the Boeing 777 jet that vanished during a flight from Malaysia to China, and his family describes him as caring, honorable, and a man of faith.

Woods family issued a statement Saturday evening that said "Philip Wood was a man of God, a man of honor and integrity, His word was gold, incredibly generous, creative, and intelligent, Phil cared about people, his family, and above all, Christ."

Adding, "Though our hearts are hurting, we know so many families around the world are affected just as much as us by this terrible tragedy," it read. "We ask for your prayers, not only for ourselves, but for all involved during this difficult time. As a family, we are sticking together through Christ to get through this."

Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 was headed to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur. 48 hours after a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 plane with 239 people on board took off it disappeared from radar screens. It disappeared over the South China Sea. A massive hunt for the aircraft ensued with efforts from 34 planes, 40 ships and search crews from 10 countries. Officials have not found any sign of a Malaysia Airlines flight.

Wood's family resides in Texas and his brother, Tom Wood, spoke with NBC. He said Wood was excited to be moving to Kuala Lumpur.

"He was telling us how beautiful it was, describing Wood as adventuresome," he said. "He did like adventure," he continued. "He rode his motorcycle everywhere and liked traveling and seeing things."

Tom said he has been in touch with Wood's two sons. "They're mourning just like all of us, you know, it's rough."

His father, Aubrey Wood, told The New York Times "We're all sticking together, what can you do? What can you say?"
