‘Magic Mike 2’ Relase Date: Channing Tatum Describes Sequel as “Crazier” than First Film

Fans of the 2012 hit movie "Magic Mike' will be pleased to know that its sequel will be part of the Summer 2015 roster of films, competing alongside standard summer movie offerings which include superheroes, aliens, robots and the like.

The "Magic Mike' sequel, rumored to be titled "Magic Mike XXL', will not be directed by Steven Soderbergh, but he will be an active participant in the filmmaking process on the project. This time around, Gregory Jacobs, Soderbergh's long-time assistant, will be sitting at the helm.

Channing Tatum, who is co-writing the sequel with his writer/producer partner Reid Carolin, has already signed on and is eager to reprise his role. The actor said that the plot is similar to a road trip movie, and maintained that the second installment in the series will be "crazier" than the first.

In an interview with GQ, Tatum revealed that there was a story in particular that he wanted to explore in the first film. The story involves a couple of adult performer conventions that he had attended, but Soderbergh convinced him to save that plot for its own movie, rather than make it a part of the first film's larger narrative.

"We cut out so much stuff that was just really juicy, fun things to happen in a movie that you haven't seen before," said Tatum to GQ. He then went on to describe one of the conventions that he attended in Raleigh, North Carolina.

"The women would come from miles and miles around. Then you lock the doors and you say all bets are off. It gets zany and crazy, and it's a wild ride," he added.

The first "Magic Mike' movie was based on Tatum's real-life experience as a former adult performer, before he got his starring role in the dance movie "Step Up', where he met his future wife, Jenna Dewan. The two of them have been married for five years, and they have a 1-year old daughter.

"Magic Mike XXL' will be released on July 3, 2015.
