‘Madam Secretary’ Season 1 Episode 6 Spoilers: Téa Leoni's Character Faces Diplomatic Issues in Asia

In the sixth episode of 'Madam Secretary', which aired Sunday October 26, Secretary of the State Elizabeth McFord faced unexpected consequences after she made a plea to the President of the United States to help Western Africa.

The show's sixth episode, entitled "The Call," follows the events of the previous one where Elizabeth McFord, played by Téa Leoni, faced the daunting task of negotiating with Iran over their nuclear program.

Elizabeth was determined to tackle the issue peacefully in contrast to the president's decision, which involved military action. She now has to face the repercussions of her actions while dealing with a situation in Africa.

McFord also had to deal with family issues, juggling time spent at work and time with her husband Henry McCord, a Georgetown ethics professor, and their son Jason.

McFord is shrewd, brilliant and determined to make good changes in the world in her new role as the Secretary of the State. She was a college professor and former CIA analyst who left after the death of her predecessor, but was later asked by the president to take up the post in their need for someone "who can think outside the box."

McFord is responsible for tackling international diplomacy and wading through office politics. She often circumvents protocol while she negotiates global and domestic issues, something that puts her at odds with the President's Chief of Staff, Russell Jackson, played by Zeljko Ivanek.

McFord is joined by her team, which includes her Chief of Staff, Nadine Tolliver, played by Bebe Neuwirth; speechwriter Matt Mahoney, played by Geoffrey Arend; press coordinator Daisy Grant, played by Patina Miller; and her assistant, Blake Moran, played by Erich Bergen.

'Madam Secretary' was considered a hit after it attracted 14.7 million viewers in its debut episode, It has since been picked for broadcast by TEN in Australia, Global TV in Canada and Sky Living in the UK.

The show's seventh episode, titled "Need to Know," will air Sunday, Nov. 9. It was directed by Dennie Gordon and written by Alexander Maggio.

'Madam Secretary' airs at 8 pm on Sundays via CBS.
