'Mad Men' Season 6 Finale Sets Series Ratings Record, 2.7 Million Viewers / Stream Finale Episode Online at AMC
Is Don Draper finally changing his ways...dare I say...maturing?
Regardless, America tuned in just to make sure there wasn't another surprise suicide like the tragic Mad Men Season 5 finale.
In face Sunday night's Season 6 final episode set a new ratings record for the AMC drama. The Mad Men Season 6 finale drew 2.7 million viewers for the 10 PM premiere. The 60s diorama also logged a 2.1 household rating average, the show's highest for a Mad Men season finale.
"There is nothing else on television like Mad Men, and for the series in its sixth season to deliver the highest-rated finale ever - and an episode that critics and fans have already declared an instant classic - is a testament to everyone who brings this world to life," according to AMC president Charlie Collier.
Though the Season 6 finale drew a large total of viewers, it was down 7% in the 25-54 demographic, only attracting 1.3 million adult viewers. Mad Men was a show with a tough demographic to begin with, let alone now after six seasons.
In the Mad Men Season 6 finale, Don Draper had a revelation to move to California to upstart the West Coast branch of the still-not-named ad agency he works for in New York. He convinces his wife Megan to quit her acting job on a daytime soap and make the leap to Hollywood.
But with a surprise personal crisis for Ted, Don relinquishes his California post [a.k.a. "happiness"] and opts to stay in the Big Apple, only to find out he's being temporarily relieved [a.k.a. "fired].
