Mac Mini 2014 Release Date: Apple’s Plans Regarding New Hardware Launch Still Uncertain
Apple fans are calling for an updated Mac Mini, shortages of the product seen in July of 2013 would suggest an updated version of the computer to release this Summer, but that is not the case, as the Cupertino-headquartered tech giant has not said much on the matter.
The last time Apple Computer updated the Mac Mini was in October of 2012, when the elegant and efficient desktop computer gained quad-core Core i7 processors, an upgraded RAM, and Intel HD Graphics 4000. Since then, developers of hardware have made a lot of improvements possible, examples being Intel's higher-performing Haswell processors as well as Iris integrated graphics.
In fact, the media event organized by Apple on October 22, 2013 seemed to be an excellent opportunity for Apple to introduce Haswell Mac Minis, but the company stayed away from making any announcement in this regard. Soon after, Apple fans were excited when a Belgian website reported that the company was likely to release a new Mac Mini in January 2014. However, the leak proved to be a rumor and the website removed the information.
What came as a surprise to fans was Apple's reluctance to mention the system during their recently concluded 2014 Worldwide Developers Conference. Hence, it is unclear as to what Apple's plans are for the desktop computer.
Additionally, Haswell is turning out to be an aging chip line, with its successor Broadwell expected to arrive in late 2014 or early 2015, which would leave even more upgrade potential for the Mac Mini.
According to a report in Macrumors, as no release date for Mac Mini has been announced yet, the possible launch date of the desktop computer is anyone's guess.
