Tonight's game featured a duel between a 4th seed Louisville Cardinals versus 13th seed Manhattan Jaspers for a chance to advance to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. However, legendary Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino is very familiar with the Jaspers head coach Steve Masiello because he was Pitino's ex-assistant coach.

"I think the pairings sometimes lack common sense," said Pitino to reporters expressing his views about facing his friend and former player so early in the tournament. "I don't think they would put somewhere down the road Duke-North Carolina so ... the matchups don't make sense to me. I'm OK with the seedings. I'm not OK with the matchups. But the selection committee is very fair, very honorable, very honest people, so I can't protest too much because they're doing the best job that they can do. Maybe they're a bunch of soccer ADs, I don't know."

Pitino's Cardinals look to continue their success tonight at the Amway Center after his team recently won the American Athletic Conference title. The Cardinals clinched the championship when they defeated the formidable UConn Huskies by the final score of 71-61 on March 15.

Similarly, Masiello ended a terrific regular season by defeating the Iona Gaels by the final score of 71-68 on March 10 to clinch the MAAC championship. Despite their sparkling record, it would still be an upset if Masiello's squad defeats his mentor's powerhouse team tonight.

"To see them come up and then see us come up against them, it takes a little fun out of it," said Masiello in reference to the bittersweet possibility of eliminating his friend and mentor. "It's just, that's not fun for me going against someone that I have to now try to beat, and almost in my mind, think negatively about. It's hard for me to do that."
