Los Angeles Lakers 2015 NBA Draft News: Falling Short on Big Names, LA Make Modest Moves
With the No. 2 overall pick in this year's NBA Draft, rumors of a potential trade for DeMarcus Cousins, and having free agent meetings (twice) with LaMarcus Aldridge, the Los Angeles Lakers had big aspirations this offseason. So far, it hasn't panned out like the organization and their fans had hoped for, but the team has made moves to better itself from the franchise-worst mark it endured last season.
The Lakers have reached an agreement with reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams, for a reported three-year, $21 million deal, according to Yahoo Sports.
The 29-year-old scoring guard averaged a career-high 15.5 points along with 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals last season in 80 games for the Toronto Raptors. He has played in 10 NBA seasons having stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Atlanta Hawks.
The Lakers have also reportedly agreed to a deal with free agent forward Brandon Bass. As reported by Yahoo Sports, terms of the deal are still pending as the team is in the midst of making other deals, most notably a trade involving Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert.
The 30-year-old Bass averaged 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds while playing all 82 games for the Boston Celtics last season.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports that Hibbert was informed over the weekend he could expect to be moved to the Lakers once an agreement in principle is reached.
Nick Young has emerged as the candidate to be unloaded by the Lakers, who suddenly are stacked at the guard position with the drafting of D'Angelo Russell, the emergence of Jordan Clarkson, the pending return of Kobe Bryant, and the signing of Williams.
As noted by Yahoo Sports, the Lakers could send a player to the Pacers along with a second-round pick as compensation for Hibbert and his $15.5 million salary for next season.
