'The Lone Ranger' Movie 2013: Box Office Bomb for Disney, Depp / Horse Silver, "Most Professional Actor on Set" According to 'Lone Ranger' Actor

When Johnny Depp approached Disney with the Lone Ranger idea, I'm sure the company was thrilled. Great! Johnny Depp as the Lone Ranger. Perfect let's go!

When Depp opted instead for the role of Tonto, the studio was, needless to say, probably a little worried. And for good reason.

The latest blockbuster from Disney is collectively considered a train wreck. Only a weekend into it's release Lone Ranger hasn't received a favorable review yet. Basically it's been left to die in the wreckage of some of the film's costly railroad action scenes.

Why was Lone Ranger such a failure. It has all the makings of a perfect summer blockbuster.

1. Johnny Depp
2. Johnny Depp in unrecognizable makeup and costume.
3. The same director as the uber successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise: Gore Verbinski
4. The same production team, headed by Jerry Bruckheimer, as the Pirates franchise.
5. A reported, $225 million to spend on top of the line sets, locations, equipment.

Then why the John Carter like success? Experts say Lone Ranger won't even escape the 4th of July holiday with less than $50 million, after only taking a meager $19.5 million since Tuesday.

At least they got the horse right.

"Silver was certainly the most professional actor on the set," says Lone Ranger actor Armie Hammer. "And he hit his mark every time."

"It's a remarkable horse in the hands of one of the most remarkable horse trainers I have ever seen," Hammer adds. "Bobby can train a horse to walk up to a six pack of beer and drink it. What do you say to a horse to start that process?"
