Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers revealed that his British side is solely focused on their forthcoming matchup with Basel as the two teams face off today.

"I can't think about winning the Champions League as we are in October and we have the Premier League to contend with too. We are thinking game by game. Swiss football produces very good players who are technical," said Rodgers to reporters, "Basel are the Swiss champions and they have lots of experience in this competition as they have been playing in it for years. We haven't been as good as expected [this season]. We have integrated new players who are adapting to a new team, a new country and new football. We have an idea of where we are going."

Meanwhile, Basel manager Paulo Sousa also mentioned that he is looking forward to facing the UK squad, led by their skipper (Rodgers) on October 1.

"For everyone in football it's a dream to be involved in such a competition. We want to compete and if we have good statistics like we had against Real Madrid, but make fewer mistakes, then there is a possibility we can win the game. We have to play at our best level," said Sousa to reporters.

"It's a pleasure to face Brendan Rodgers - he is a great coach and a great person. He tries to make his team play good football, like I do. I'm lucky to have players with lots of different skills and characteristics, which gives me a lot of tactical options. In the last few games we have played with different formations. I'm not experimenting with new tactics. It depends on the opposition and the players I have available."
