Linkin Park's Chester Bennington to Front Stone Temple Pilots, Watch Chester with STP Performing Together Here (VIDEO)
The crowd at the KROQ Weenie Roast in Los Angeles this weekend were the first on a new musical development. Chester Bennington, lead singer of Linkin Park, has joined the Stone Temple Pilots as their singer.
STP reportedly performed three songs at the event including, "Vasoline", "Sex Type Thing" and a new song called, "Out of Time".
"I've loved STP since I was 13 years old and they've had a huge influence on me," Bennington said. "When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance. The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I've continued to work on new music with LP."
"Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we've admired for a long time," Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo said.
"We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we're all really happy with the result," DeLeo added.
Scott Weiland, the original singer and founding member of STP has struggled with drug addiction for years and STP has had several hiatuses over their career. The band recently fired him again for not getting along with the band.
Weiland gave this statement about his departure, "I learned of my supposed "termination" from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be "terminated" from a band that I founded, fronted, and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that's something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday."
What do you guys think of Chester singing with STP? I was skeptical, but I must admit, after watching a few videos, he sounds and moves pretty good. It's impossible for him not to ever look like he's not "mimicing" Scott's moves or sound, but I think he held it down and looked pretty comfortable in the process. He kind of even looks like a younger Scott Weiland.
