If you only tuned into the second half of Lindsay Lohan's interview on Letterman last night, you probably thought it was pretty awkward how hard Letterman was grilling Lohan about her rehab stint, reducing the party girl to tears near the end.

If you saw the first half of the interview, you may have been surprised to see a likeable, even funny Lohan dishing quips back and forth with the late night show host. At one point Letterman even applauded Lohan for having "enough spine, enough sense of [yourself], and enough poise" to come on the show despite being one of his favorite targets to make jokes about.

Before the sentimental second half, the interview was pretty light. At one point they pulled up a clip of Lohan's first late night appearance as a 6-year old playing "Things Found on the Floor of the D Train" in a Halloween sketch.

Lohan was a good enough sport to sit through Letterman reading off a few of his favorite jokes about the Mean Girls star.

"Lindsay Lohan's in court so often the cafeteria has named a sandwich after her."

Not shying away, Lohan returned with, "They don't let you eat there! What is this, a gourmet court?" The crowd laughed at the gleeful exchange.

Near the end of the interview Letterman focused on Linday's addiction issues and her upcoming rehab stint. A self-aware Lohan shut the comedian down.

"I'm looking forward to actually just taking time for me. You can't make a joke of it. That's so mean."
