Leonard Nimoy Death News: Final Tweets from Star Trek's Mr.Spock Actor
Leonard Nimoy, who was receiving hospital treatment since last week for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, died at the age of 83, according to Reuters.
Nimoy, who is famous for his portrayal of the role of Spock in the Television Series "Star Trek, was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles last week.
His granddaughter confirmed Nimoy's death in a post to his Twitter account, @TheRealNimoy.
He revealed through his Twitter account, last year, that was suffering from chronic lung disease, despite stopping smoking more than 30 years ago. He said, "I quit smoking 30 years ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP.
COPD is supposed to be a collection of lung related illnesses that include emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The condition causes severe damage to the lungs, making it difficult to breathe.
After getting diagnosed, Nimoy posted a couple of tweets talking about his condition and his smoking habits.
''Smokers, please understand. If you quit after you're diagnosed with lung damage it's too late. Grandpa says learn my lesson. Quit now. LLAP"
''I'm doing OK. Just can't walk distances. Love my life, family, friends and followers. LLAP [live long and prosper] (sic)."
His last tweet however, was a thought-provoking one, words which will be cherished for years to come.
He tweeted, saying, "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP"
His co-star in the series, William Shatner, who starred alongside him as Captain Kirk, reacted to his death and said, "I loved him like a brother. We will all miss his humor, his talent, and his capacity to love," according to The Guardian.
