Legend of Zelda Wii U 2014 Gameplay Update: Longtime Game Designer Eiji Aonuma Addresses Multiplayer Rumors
Nintendo game designer Eiji Aonuma recently addressed the rumors regarding multiplayer in the upcoming Legend of Zelda Wii U 2014 game.
"The two-player functionality of Hyrule Warriors is actually something that has traditionally been done in the Dynasty Warriors series, but they've changed because of the hardware and the second screen on your GamePad," said Aonuma to Game Informer, "Instead of having a split screen on the television, you have one-player playing on the television and one on the GamePad.
Aonuma furthered discussed the possibility about multiplayer being added to the future Nintendo game.
"When I was talking back about making Zelda more than just a single-player experience? That's something you will see in the future, maybe next year," said Aonuma.
The 51-year-old video game director also addressed the rumor of whether or not the Link is still the star of the popular game franchise.
"The reason for that is because, for me, Link is the player," said Aonuma to GameSpot, "And I don't want to look too closely at, or give too much information about, who the player character is, because it's supposed to represent the player--him or herself."
Aonuma also revealed what fans can look forward to when The Legend of Zelda Wii U and Hyrule Warriors games arrive in stores.
"The time when Zelda fans had to wait two or three years for a new installment, I was actually the director. I'm also rethinking the conventions of Aonuma at the same time that I'm rethinking the conventions of Zelda. Now that I'm in the position of producer, and not director, it's my responsibility to coordinate our efforts and make sure we're continuing to provide new experiences for the Zelda fan base. My hope is to be able to provide new games for our audience maybe every year. Again, that's just my hope. I can't make any promises," he stated.
The upcoming Hyrule Warriors is a crossover game between the popular Nintendo franchise and Tecmo Koei's Dynasty Warriors fighting series.
Hyrule Warriors is set arrive in North American stores on September 26, 2014.
The Legend of Zelda Wii U is expected to arrive on Nintendo's latest video game console in US stores in 2015.
