Lecrae Nominated for Billboard Award, Winning a Grammy and Upcoming Tour Dates
Contemporary Christian hip-hop artist, Lecrae, has recently been nominated for Top Christian Album in the 2013 Billboard Music Awards.
Lecrae's latest album Gravity, which was released back 2012, is the sixth studio album by the hip-hop star. The album debuted at No.3 on Billboard 200 charts and sold over 72,000 units making it the biggest sales week ever for a Christian hip-hop album.
Gravity won the Best Gospel Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, California. By doing so, Lecrae made history by being one of the fist rappers to ever win a Best Gospel Album award by the Grammy's. "My ambition was just to make honest music, and I really was not intending for it to be a traditional gospel music album or anything. I was just very honest about my spirituality", stated Lecrae after hearing he had won the award.
This album is said to be the most influential and critically acclaimed record from Lecrae. With being nominated by Billboard for the most recent award, along his side during the nominations will be fellow contestants for the award: Toby Mac, MercyMe, Casting Crowns and various other artists from the WOW 2013 Hits record. The Billboard music awards will be showcased live on May 19th on television program ABC.
On other news, Lecrae just finished up his headlining "Higher Learning" tour that lasted up until March 10 with Propaganda and Dee-1. The tour hit several of the HBCU's (Historical Black Colleges and Universities) throughout the country starting in February. Lecrae's main goal in touring with these bands was to engage college students with the Gospel message and salvation through Jesus Christ with hip-hop, spoken words, and comedy.
His next tour will be the "Inspirational Gospel Celebration" tour which will began on May 9 and will last until August 31. The "Inspirational Gospel Celebration" tour is running into its second generation and will be bringing the best of Gospel to fans in a free concert series. McDonalds is hosting the event with Vickie Winans and has already sold out two concert listings.
Lecrae will be featured with other famous Gospel singers as Tamela Mann, John P. Kee, and Smokie Norful. The concert will showcase the amazing talents by all the artists and inspire the crowd with the traditional and non-traditional Gospel music. "Through this series of Gospel concerts, McDonalds celebrates the rich musical heritage of the African American community by delivering an inspirational evening of music to local communities." stated Tanya Holliday, McDonalds Owner Operator.
