Leah Remini: Leaving Scientology Has Made My Family 'Closer' (VIDEO)

While actress Leah Remini was promoting her upcoming reality show, she spoke about her family's "closer" relationship after leaving Scientology.

"We're learning new ways to reconnect with each other, so it really has brought us closer together," said Remini to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres on May 28. "We're stronger and and we're having so much fun together and this is something that the family loves to do."

Remini is best known for her portrayal as Carrie Heffernan of CBS's hit sitcom "King of Queens," as well as a very unforgettable stint as Stacey Carosi on the NBC hit series "Saved by the Bell," a season co-hosting CBS's "The Talk," and performing on "Dancing With the Stars" Season 17.

Now the 43-year-old Brooklyn native will star in "The Untitled Leah Remini Project" on TLC, which also stars her husband Angelo Pagan and their little 9-year-old daughter named Sofia.

In addition, the show will star Remini's mother Vicki, who is not afraid to express her opinion, her stepfather, her sister and her brother-in-law.

"Leah is a no-nonsense, hard-working, relatable mom, wife, daughter, and sister. Her sharp humor and unfiltered family are a perfect match for the network," said Nancy Daniels, general manager of TLC. "This series continues our focus on creating compelling series about remarkable families, using heart and humor to anchor it to the TLC brand."

In a previous interview on Ellen's show she talked about her relationship with current Scientology members after she left the organization.

"We [her and her husband Angelo] lost friends who can no longer talk to us who are still in the organization," said Remini to DeGeneres last year. "But we have other friends, who are not in the church, who have stood by us, and that's all we can ask for."

The TLC network has ordered 12 half-hour episodes of "The Untitled Leah Remini Project," which is being produced by Gurney Productions, the same company behind A&E hit series "Duck Dynasty."

"The Untitled Leah Remini Project" show is slated to debut this summer on the TLC network.
