'Law and Order: SVU' Season 15 to be the Last?
Long running NBC hit "Law and Order: SVU" may be in trouble. Though ratings are good, reports have indicated that the current season could be the last for the popular crime drama. With about a month before NBC presents its line up to potential advertisers, "Law and Order: SVU" has not yet been renewed.
According to a Deadline report, show creator Dick Wolfe has asked to accept a lower salary, but Wolfe has refused. Could this failed negotiation lead to the end of the show?
According to Warren Leight, the show's executive producer and showrunner, the Deadline report may not be completely accurate. Leight took to twitter to express his frustrations with Deadline.
"As these negotiations string us all out, remember that people with agendas leak misinformation through the press. For the record, we are NBC's 3rd highest rated drama (not 4th, Deadline), and last week, NBC's top rated scripted show. Also, our budget is down considerably from season 11, even as costs have risen," the showrunner tweeted.
So while the show and NBC are still in negotiations, it appears that it is too early to tell the fate of "Law and Order: SVU."
There does seem to be a chance the show will be renewed, as its ratings have been good. Leight seemed hopefull of the show's chances at renewal when speaking to E! earlier this month.
"The cast, the writers and the crew-we've done everything we can. I think the fans have shown up. I get very baseball statistic-y here. We're up 5 percent on the year," he said.
