'Last of Us' Movie News: Jack Hughman to Play Role of Joel? Ellen Page Steps Into Spotlight for Ellie?

The highly rated and super popular Sony Playstation title, 'The Last of Us' is in the works to be transformed into a motion picture. At first, the game was only rumored to receive the transposition, however, producers recently stepped out and confirmed that it will be seen on the big screen.

The 'Last of Us', made by developer Naughty Dog, is a survival-horror game which originally came out for Sony Playstation 3 and has garnered great reviews worldwide. The story talks about the dangerous journey of Joel and Ellie, the two survivors of a plague that has turned most of Earth's humans into zombies. These two characters must find a cure for this plague, but also stay alive at the same time. The story revolves around their struggle for survival and about how they manage to cure the plague and set thing back to normal.

According to earlier reports, the movie has been pegged with a 2016 release date and will commence filming sometime in 2015. The script of this film will be written by Neil Druckman who also wrote the script for the video game. This has caused massive discussions on the social media sites, where fans wonder who will be cast for the roles of the story's main characters, Joel and Ellie.

Even though no actors have been confirmed as of yet, fans have already thrown their favorite choices into the mix via online discussions.

Millions of fans want Hugh Jackman of 'X-Men' fame to play the role of Joel, while others want to see Gerard Butler play it instead. Meanwhile, there are rumors that 'Game of Thrones' star Maisie Williams has been roped in to play the role of Ellie, but Ellen Page fans would like to see her in the spotlight.

Again, no official casting list has been released, so fans can still hope to see their favorite stars on the big screen when the movie debuts in cinemas.
