The film adaptation for Sony PlayStation's hit title, 'Last of Us', has been confirmed since late July's 2014 International Comic-Con event in San Diego.

Since then, film producers have not revealed much information about the upcoming movie, except the name of the writer and creative director on the project, Neil Druckmann.

However, in terms of rumors, 'X-Men' star Ellen Page might take on the lead role of Ellie, in the 'Last of Us' film. This contradicts previous rumors that say Maisie Williams, of 'Game of Thrones' fame, will tackle the role in the upcoming blockbuster adaptation. Nevertheless, the casting rumors have not been confirmed, and as it stands, no actress has yet been announced as the lead role in the movie.

In regards to the other lead role in 'Last of Us', Gerard Butler's name has been thrown into the ring for the role of Joel, but again, he has not been confirmed for the part.

Fans continue to speculate about the aforementioned A-listers for their parts in the film, because they look similar to the characters in the game.

Currently, the 'Last of Us' movie is in its pre-production planning stage. Also, several reports claim that the 'Spiderman' and 'Evil Dead' director Sam Raimi will jump onboard the production train.

As for the forthcoming film's release date, nothing has been officially announced as of yet. The 'Last of Us' movie adaptation will be produced by Ghost House Pictures together with Naughty Dog, and will be distributed by Screen Gems.
