The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to defend their home field against a very familiar foe when the San Francisco Giants come to town to renew their longtime rivalry that dates back decades all the way back to when both franchises were still based in New York as the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants.

The Dodgers recently lost to Washington Nationals by 3-2, with Dodgers' starter Dan Haren (4-1) not doing well enough after allowing three runs in six innings of work.

Dodgers are hoping their pitcher Josh Beckett (0-1) will outperform Ryan Vogelsong tonight in Hollywood.

"I think it's always a little more when we play L.A.," said Giants player Brandon Belt. "We're going to be battling it out until the end, so it's one of those series when we want to go in and take as many as we can. We'll probably both be there in the end, so if we could take some now, we're going to try to do it for sure."

The Giants were defeated by the Los Angeles Angels by 4-3 on Wednesday night, with Giants starter Tim Lincecum (2-2) suffering the loss after giving up four runs in only four innings of work. Tonight meanwhile, Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong (1-1) looks to outduel Dodgers starting pitcher Josh Beckett when the two men oppose each other.

"They're just a tough group for me," said Dodgers skipper Don Mattingly to reporters. "They play hard every day, they're mentally tough, they've got good pitching. They play the game right. They're just tough."
