Angels young hurler Matt Shoemaker (16-9, 3.04 ERA) is looking to propel Los Angeles to the victory when he starts Game 2 of the 2014 American League Division Series on Friday night.

"Everything felt great," said Shoemaker to reporters.

"A few days ago, it was a little tight. Now, I don't feel it at all. ... I haven't thrown 100 pitches yet, but I definitely feel I'm capable, for sure. Just the way my arm feels, my body feels, definitely feels doable."

Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia credits the 28-year-old Michigan native for aiding the Angels advance to the playoffs this year.

"Matt Shoemaker saved our season," said Scioscia to reporters, "He's got to be the story of the year for our team, and it might be the biggest surprise in the league. Matt's been a guy who has always had to prove himself. Even this year he had to prove himself. But he got the opportunity and he's made the most of it."

Meanwhile, the Royals are looking to upset the Angels in the best-of-5 series when the two AL squads continues their series in California.

"There aren't very many players like (Angels outfielder Mike Trout) that come along," said Royals pitcher Jason Vargas to reporters.

"(But) you're going to have to negotiate that whole lineup, and if you think about one hitter, your work is going to be cut out for you."
