'Kung Fu Panda 3' Release Date: Po Returns for March 2016 Premiere Date, Nine Months Early

The third installment to Dreamworks' 3D animated blockbuster film, 'Kung Fu Panda', will hit the big screens on December 23 of 2015. The movie was originally slated for a March 18, 2016 premiere, but was moved to an earlier slot just months ago for undisclosed reasons. This is despite the fact that Dreamworks announced a significant loss in its second quarter performance late last month.

'Kung Fu Panda 3' is expected to retain the franchise's original powerhouse cast which includes: Jack Black, who will be returning as the main star and 'chosen one', Po; Angelina Jolie will be lending her voice to Tigress, the Furious Five's toughest; Dustin Hoffman will be returning as the old Master Shifu; Seth Rogen as the Furious Five's Mantis; Lucy Liu as Viper, Great Master Viper's daughter and member of the Furious Five; Jackie Chan as Monkey, Wu Kong's younger brother and member of the Furious Five; and David Cross as Crane, also a member of the Furious Five.

Also joining the already star-studded cast are 'Bridesmaid' star Rebel Wilson, 'Argo' star Bryan Cranston, and 'Hannibal' star Mads Mikkelsen. Rebel Wilson is set to play a character that has the potential to mean the world to Po (his still-unnamed love interest).

In 'Kung Fu Panda 3', Po is said to be facing dangers of different natures and of greater intensity than those in the first and second movie, one of them is a threat that stands close to his home, while the other holds a supernatural phenomenon.

'Kung Fu Panda 3' is written by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, produced by Guillermo del Toro, under the direction of Jennifer Yuh for Dreamworks Animation.
