South Korean stars Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun made an appearance at the Samsung Galaxy S5 Promo Event in China on April 18 despite the recent ferry tragedy in Korea. The actors both starred in the hit Korean series "My Love From The Stars" and thousands of fans had been eager to see them at the China event, where the series has been hugely popular.

The two stars had asked to miss the event due to the recent ferry tragedy in South Korea, however, in the end they confirmed they would honor their commitment and attend the Samsung gala.

"We requested to cancel our appearance at the event from our side multiple times," said Kim Soo Hyun's agency Key East Entertainment spokesperson to Xports News.

The Korean ship Sewol was carrying 476 passengers when it came into trouble and started sinking on April 16, 2014. Currently, there are at least 87 passengers confirmed as killed in the tragedy with many more still missing.

South Korean officials are still looking for 215 missing passengers, believed to have been trapped on the ship when it turned over and sank last week.

South Korean President Park Geun-hye recently voiced her opinions on the Korean ferry tragedy.

"The actions of the captain and some of the crew are absolutely unacceptable, unforgivable actions that are akin to murder," said South Korean President Park in a statement. "[The ship's captain Lee Joon-seok and his two crew members] told the passengers to stay put while they themselves became the first to escape."

Park further expressed her disappointment with the captain and crew who allegedly abandoned the ship and the passengers.

"Legally and ethically," said Park in a statement, "this is an unimaginable act."

The technology giant company issued the following statement regarding the Korean tragedy.

"We wanted to delay the event due to the tragedy in Korea, but because this was an event in China, we found that it was hard to cancel it," said Samsung in a statement released on Friday.
