Kevin Hart, Oprah Interview: 'Real Husbands of Hollywood' Star Tells Story About Late Mother's Faith Helping Pay His Rent (VIDEO)
The "Real Husbands of Hollywood" star and funnyman Kevin Hart had a conversation with Oprah Winfrey recently about many topics including his early days as a struggling comedian. In the interview with Winfrey, he told her about how supportive his late mother was to him during the good and the bad times in his life and career.
"She's like, 'Are you reading your Bible?,'" said Hart to Winfrey on the March 23 installment of "Oprah Prime." "I said, 'Mom, come on - I don't have time to talk about that right now. I'm late. I need the rent money.'"
Hart told Winfrey he constantly asked his mom for money to pay his rent and she always offered him the same reply.
"When you read your Bible, then we'll talk about your rent," said Nancy Hart to her son many years ago.
After multiple weeks of Hart asking his mother for rent money, he finally listened to his mother's inspirational advice.
"I go home and say, 'Man let me open this Bible up,'" said Hart to Winfrey on her "Oprah Prime." "Open the Bible up, six rent checks fell out. She put all my rent checks in the Bible."
The 34-year-old comedian found out the hard way that the Lord works in mysterious ways.
"I felt like the biggest jerk ever! I sat there and that was the first time I tried to read from the Bible. I read about 2 chapters and then I said 'Mom, I'm sorry, I just opened up the Bible!'"
He also told Oprah why his mother keep putting the rent money in Bible.
"She said I asked you to read because you need to stay faithful along your journey," said Hart to Winfrey. "I said 'Okay, I get it. Mom, I will.'"
The third season BET's hit series "Real Husbands of Hollywood" is scheduled to debut later this year.
