Kevin Durant MVP Speech: NBA Star Emotional as He Mentions Single Mother; Thanks God for His Abilities, 'Basketball is just a Platform... to Inspire People' (VIDEO)

A nervous and very emotional Kevin Durant took the time to publicly acknowledge God again during his NBA Most Valuable Player Press Conference.

"First of all, I would like to thank God for changing my life," Durant declared right at the top of his speech. "He let me really realize what life is all about. Basketball is just a platform in order for me to inspire people, and I realize that."

In his acceptance speech, Durant expressed his love and appreciation for his family, teammates and the people most important to him.

"When you got people behind you, you can do whatever," he said during the speech.

Durant spoke of his childhood growing up in a small county outside of Washington D.C., where his mother raised him and an older brother by herself.

"Single parent with two boys by the time you were 21 years old," he admirably said of his mother as he choked up.

The MVP averaged 32 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 5.5 assists this season, and led his team into Game 2 of the Western Conference playoffs this week.

Durant is known for being outspoken about his Christian faith. At the top of the year, a video of ESPN reporter Doris Burke interviewing Durant went viral because of the awkward response the reporter gave the star when he accredited Jesus Christ to his successes on the court.

The player reportedly carries a Bible to games and was baptized at Hillsong New York City Church.

Off the court, Durant has accumulated considerable wealth as a result of numerous endorsement contracts. He is a well-liked player, and a philanthropist who has donates money to various causes.
