‘Keeping up With the Kardashians’ News: Kim Reveals Secret Behind Baby ‘North West’ Name
Fans of Kim Kardashian and husband Kanye west had mixed reactions when they heard that they were going to name their baby, North. Some people felt it was a tad overboard, while others felt it was plain genius.
Boiling it down to the origin of the baby's name, North West, it was Pharrell Williams who influenced the couple to name their daughter, North.
Kim said that the "Happy" singer approached her and Kanye while they were eating at the Mercer Hotel in New York. Pharrell asked them if the rumors about the unusual name were true. The couple dismissed it immediately.
"It was a rumor in the press and we'd never really considered it seriously, at all," said Kim in the latest issue of GQ Magazine UK.
"But Kanye and I were over there at that table having lunch about a year ago and Pharrell came over to us and said, 'Oh my God, are you guys really going to call your daughter North? That is the best name.'
"I said, 'No, we're not. That's just a rumor.' Then a little while later Anna Wintour [Editor-In-Chief of American Vogue] came over and asked the same thing. She told us, 'North is a genius name.' Kanye and I just looked at each other and laughed. I guess at that point it sort of stuck."
The 33-year-old mother of one gave birth to North West at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Jun. 15, 2013.
