Katy Perry Talks Russell Brand Divorce: 'Roar' Singer's Dark Moments Revealed- Inspirations for Songs

One of the most famous female singers in Hollywood today, Katy Perry recently broke her silence about her experience after her divorce with Hollywood comedian and actor Russell Brand. Apparently, the singer went through a dark time which in turn made her produce certain songs on her album, Prism.

The "This is How we do" singer revealed that she documented her emotions after she and her ex-husband split in 2011. Perry's song "By the Grace of God" was apparently about Brand as she revealed in her appearance in Australia's 'The Project'.

"Sometimes you can be blinded by your extreme emotions. I definitely was looking for answers, and during that time I wrote that song. And yeah, I was depressed, and it was sad, and there were thoughts, but there were never actions, thankfully," the 30-year-old singer revealed.

Perry previously admitted that she had always been very emotional whenever she experiences trials in her life. "I'm not the kind of person who is always like, 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger,'" she said in a 2013 interview with the Sunday Times, "I was in bed for about two weeks...It hurt a lot-I got a good knock," Perry added.

Perry's past, despite at times made her weak and depressed, now made her stronger and an inspiration for people who are also in a dark place. "I wanted to share that side of my story, because I know there are so many other people out there that have gone through things like that, and you always feel like you're the only one going through that," she said on 'The Project'.

"Well, then comes along a song that speaks to you, that makes you feel like, 'Gosh, I can get through this. If she can get through this, I can get through this.'"

Perry and Brand got married in India last October 23, 2010. It was a private ceremony with only family and friends. Their divorce was finalized in 2012 after splitting up in 2011.
