Kanye West, The Bible Series, Duck Dynasty and others have kept Jesus in mainstream headlines throughout 2013.
Jesus has always made headline news. Whether people believe or not, His life has always been a topic of controversy. The year 2013 was no different. This year many mainstream artists were outspoken about their faith in Jesus.
A&E's reality television phenom "Duck Dynasty," has broken several ratings records on both A&E and cable television overall. The family is very forthright about their Christian faith and are shown praying at the end of each episode. Phil Robertson's recent comments on GQ referring to scripture from the Bible have been the topic of discussion through mainstream news of late.
Another mainstream hit this year was "The Bible", a television miniseries based on some of the core stories throughout the Bible. It was produced by "Touched by an Angel" actress Roma Downey and her husband, "The Voice" producer Mark Burnett. The miniseries was broadcast weekly on the History channel in the United States, and was seen by more than 100 million viewers, eventually being nominated for three Emmy Awards. People loved the miniseries so much that "Son of God" - an epic biblical drama film loosely based 10-hour miniseries - will be released in 2014.
Football quarterback, Tim Tebow led the charge of sports players who were honest about their faith. This year a documentary film about evangelical Christian, NBA player, Jeremy Lin, title "Linsanity," premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He credited his NBA success to playing without pressure because he's surrendered everything to God.
In addition, Olympic champion Gabby Douglas, who gave God the glory after her 2012 gold metal win, took a break from the sport; but this year Lifetime network has signed off on a biopic about the Olympic gold medalist, which will be titled, "The Gabby Douglas Story."
In cinema, "I'm in Love with a Church Girl" - a Christian drama film, directed by Steve Race was released. Staring mainstream HipHop Artist Jeff 'Ja Rule' Atkins, and recording artist/actress Adrienne Bailon. The movie was well received and news coverage of the film and its message managed to reach people across the country.

Extremely controversial hip hop recording artist, record producer Kanye West ventured out on his "Yeezus" Tour. On his dark, moody vibe "Yeezus" album West makes many references to God. In one track the 21 Grammy award winning rapper says "I Am a God." Candace Cameron Bure, former Full House star and conservative Christian, recently called "Yeezus, blasphemy".
On West's "Yeezus" tour a mock Jesus Christ makes a guest appearance for whom West finally removes a mask he's wearing. After a heartfelt exchange Christ ascends to the top of the mountain as West bows in supplication before him. Jesus Christ appearing on the "Yeezus" Tour has arguably been the most talked about incident on the tour.
Finally, what has definitely kept the word of God in mainstream news this year is the legalization of same sex marriage. Many conservative Christians have been honest about their stance on this matter. According to an article in atoast2wealth.com Christian Broadcaster Craig James was fired by Fox sports for opposing gay marriage. Other celebrities that have opposed gay marriage are actor Kirk Cameron, actor/film director Mel Gibson, the former "Saturday Night Live" star Victoria Jackson along with the "Duck Dynasty" stars Phil Robertson's most recent comment on the matter.
