Last night's episode of hit FX drama "Justified" was full of action and excitement, and the rest of the season promises to be no different. Joelle Carter plays Ava on "Justified," and she was recently interviewed by TV Guide about her character. Carter discussed why her character decided to keep Boyd out of her life.

"Boyd's been Ava's shield and that shield's not there now. She's left to her own defenses. I think she's just trying to put herself in the strongest position and keeping that inkling of hope [of Boyd saving her] is just not good for her," the actress said.

Carter went on to give further reasoning for Ava no longer associating with Boyd.

"She's trying to break the ties so that she's not even thinking about the outside world. And maybe she's having second thoughts about what she's done to get where she is, you know?" she said to TV Guide.

The next all new episode of "Justified" will air next Tuesday March 25 at 10/9c on FX.
