Jurassic Park IV News: Steven Spielberg to Executive Produce, Director Colin Trevorrow "We want to Honour 'Jurassic Park' (VIDEO)
When it was made known that there would be a Jurassic Park 4, everyone know that expectations would be high to see if it could live up to the iconic trilogy of the first three movies.
Colin Trevorrow, the director for the upcoming Jurassic Park 4, has a tall order on his hands. He only has one feature film under his belt, Safety Not Guaranteed, which is an indie comedy-drama that was made on a budget of under $1 million ($750,000) and released in December 2012.
Trevorrow would not give away much of the plot line for the new movie, but he would say this, "We don't want to create a new scoop here, but we definitely want to honour what came before us."
"We are very aware of how much a certain generation especially cares about this movie and we talk about it all the time and really the conversation is: It's not about us, it's not about our careers, it's how do we make something that can stand with the first one," he added.
Jurassic Park 4 gets a big boost of credibility by having Steven Spielberg, who directed the first Jurassic Park, to serve as executive producer on the new movie. The screen writers are Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).
Colin spoke about Spielberg's addition, "It's incredible to have Steven, who's done this for decades and has such an incredible filmic knowledge and just understands the language of the story in a way that for us is very refreshing. It's not like getting notes from a studio executive, it's really just trying to crack this and make it the best it can be."
Universal Studios had to pause production in May on Jurassic Park IV when it was clear they would need more time to prepare before filming was scheduled to start on June 24.
Jurassic Park IV was originally scheduled for a June 13, 2014 release, but will now be pushed back to a later unscheduled release date.
The Jurassic Park films have grossed over $1.9 billion worldwide. The movies are based on a 1993 novel by Michael Crichton.
Steven Spielberg directed 1994's Jurassic Park and its 1997 sequel The Lost World, but gave directing duties to Joe Johnston for Jurassic Park III in 2001.
