Joel Osteen Speaks Out About Hoax And Shows Forgiveness
The internet has been a buzz about predominant pastor and best selling author, Joel Osteen. A website posing as Osteen's official webpage (using Osten with one "e") unveiled a "special announcement," claiming the pastor of the Lakewood Church in Texas was leaving the Christian faith and that the Bible could not be trusted and as a "fallible, flawed, highly inconsistent history book."
Joel Osteen was in good spirits about the Hoax situation when speaking with ABC News overnight. He said he found the entire hoax mildly amusing and not something that would get him down. "You know, I'm really not angry. I don't feel like a victim," Osteen said. "I feel too blessed, that life is too short to let things like this get you down."There was a video on the fake website with ominous music playing that even showed a fake picture of CNN's website with the headline, "Pastor of mega church resigns, rejects Christ." and a Drudge headline saying, "Osteen: I am no longer a Christian."
On the fake Osteen website there was post a letter title "I am leaving the Christian faith" in which the hoxer obviously wanted people to think Osteen wrote. A piece of the letter read as follows, "I believe now that the Bible is a fallible, flawed, highly inconsistent history book that has been altered hundreds of times. There is zero evidence the Bible is the holy word of God. In fact, there is zero evidence 'God' even exists."
The fake Twitter account that was being used along side the website has now been suspended with the hoax being made public. Joel Osteen has taken this all in stride and is spinning this controversy into a way to share his core message."You can't stop everything from happening, but you can choose to say, 'God, it's in your hands'. I'm going to move forward. I'm going stay full of joy and I'm going enjoy this day," Osteen told ABC News.Osteen did not rule out taking some sort of legal action if it seems necessary but he is keeping a forgiving attitude and good spirits about the whole situation.
The fake websites domain was registered to a group called BMG Enterprises in Milwaukee and it of course went live to the world on April Fools' Day. BMG has not returned any request for comment so not much more is known yet.
