Joan Rivers Cause of Death Linked to Minor Procedure: Daughter Melissa Speaks Up

Joan Rivers died on Thursday with it being likely that the complications from her recent minor procedure eventually overwhelmed her. She initially stopped breathing during a minor procedure on her vocal chords at an outpatient clinic Thursday, and has been in a coma since then.

Rivers, 81, was placed in a medically-induced coma after going into cardiac and respiratory arrest Thursday morning

Doctors at Mount Sinai Hospital began lifting the comedian from the medically-induced coma Sunday as her family waited for her to respond. However, she passed away on Thursday due to the complications.

The comedian is best known for her use of sharp words for humor. She also critiqued worst dressed celebrities on E! network's television show 'Fashion Police'. FOX411reports that the shooting for the show has been suspended. Filming for the show, which was scheduled to coincide with the New York Fashion Week, will not go ahead.

She is also well-known for various cosmetic surgeries, which she does not deny unlike most celebrities. She claimed the procedures improved her life.

Previously her daughter expressed gratitude to everyone who offered their love and support for the comedian. Melissa added, "I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness, and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers."

There were conflicting reports on whether or not the family is going to pursue a lawsuit against the endoscopy clinic where she was treated.
