Jim Hall, jazz guitar master dies, was 83
Jim Hall, jazz guitarist, composer and arranger passed away early Tuesday at age 83. According to the AP, Hall died in his sleep at his apartment in Manhattan.

Hall is survived by his daughter and wife who described him as "truly beloved by everybody who ever met him."
Hall was one of the leading jazz guitarists of the modern era with great improvisational ability and creativity.

In early 1960s, Jim Hall was a member of Rollin's quartet he played on the album titled 'The Bridge.' In an email Rollins commented on Hall's personality, "I don't know anybody who didn't love him, including myself. He was the consummate musician and it was a privilege to work with him."

Since mid-1960s Hall led his trio and was active until shortly before his death.
In the email to The Associated Press, guitar player Metheny described Hall as "one of the most important improvising guitarists in jazz history. His musical generosity was an exact reflection of his deep humanity."Metheny performed and recorded a duo with Hall.

Jim Hall, born in Buffalo, New York, later moved to Cleveland, Ohio together with his musically talented family. Hall started to play guitar he received as a Christmas present. Hall was only ten years old when he stated to play the guitar. Hall started to perform professionally as a teenager.
After his graduation from Cleveland Institute of Music, he moved to LA and became a charter member of Hamilton's quintet.

'Jazz Guitar' for Pacific Jazz was the first album where Hall took the leadership. Late on, he moved to New York and performed with such music legends like Fitzgerald, Art Farmer or Ben Webster, to name a few.
Hall was named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master in 2004.
