Oscar award winning actor and musician Jared Leto, took to social media on Monday to accredit his fashion style to the image popularly associated to the Son of God, Jesus, and it has caused an uproar online about the true appearance of Jesus.

Jared posted a split picture of himself and a portrayal of Jesus on instagram and insisted that the he wasn't trying to compare himself to Jesus.

"Haaaa! Fashion may go out of style but style never goes out of fashion. #ClassicLooks #FashionForward #ThanksJC #NotComparingToChrist xo," the picture's caption read.

Though many name Leto's religious upbringing as Catholic, he has made no mention to his religious affiliation if any. His MySpace indicates his religion as "Christian-other," and his photo hashtag Thanks JC shows at least of admiration of Jesus.

The photo racked up over 154 thousand likes and although the actor was trying to make light of his consistent online Jesus comparisons commenters felt the need to clarify their beliefs of the savior's true appearance.

"I hate to break it to you but Jesus did not have blue eyes and delicate features - he was born in the Middle East people! he would have had dark hair, dark skin, dark eyes," one argued.

Another said, "I think they are senseless to think he would look like a Malibu surfer."

While someone else wrote, "Jesus DID NOT have Northern European features!!!!!! When will the Western World get it???!!!"

Despite what pictures depict is the image of Jesus, the Bible makes no mention of the length of His hair, and physical human features while he was here on earth before his ascension.

The only appearance of Jesus that is revealed in the Bible was described by John in Revelation 1:13-16:

"And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shining in his strength."
