Italy will attempt to advance to the "Round of 16" stage of the FIFA World Cup tournament with a victory versus Uruguay. The Italian national team is now in a must win situation following their recent upset loss to Costa Rica by 1-0.

Italy previously defeated England by 2-1 on June 14. Italy currently trails Costa Rica in the Group D standings with 3 points.

"Historically, we tend to have a bad second game. But usually Italy performs at a high level in the third game," said Italian goalie Gianluigi Buffon to reporters.

"We are open to all possibilities. One of our best qualities is that we are chameleons and I hope this versatility will help us to reach all the results we are aiming for. It would be a novelty, with all the benefits and risks that go with that. In case this choice is made, what happens on the field will tell us if it was the right decision."

Like Italy, Uruguay is tied for second place in the Group D standings with 3 points following a 2-1 win versus England on Thursday. Uruguay lost their first World Cup contest by 3-1 to Costa Rica nearly two weeks ago.

"The team did good things in the game against a rival that caused us much trouble," said Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez to the media, "These things are the base that we will to try to repeat and, if possible, improve against Italy."
