‘Iron Man 4’ Movie Update: Robert Downey Jr. Finally Confirms Sequel, Wants Mel Gibson to Direct?
Robert Downey Jr. confirms that Marvel has already given 'Iron Man 4' a green light in several of his TV guestings as he joked that he would like Mel Gibson to direct the new movie.
'The Judge' actor recently appeared on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' last Tuesday revealing that 'Iron Man 4' is currently "in the middle of negotiations."
"I know there's going to be a bunch more Marvel movies, and they have big ideas of how to do it best," Downey Jr. seemingly avoiding answering directly.
Ellen immediately retorted, "So yes?" pushing the actor to reply, "OK, yes!," the actor exclaimed.
Downey Jr. also affirmed 'Iron Man 4' on 'The Late Show' when David Letterman asked him about the hit Marvel blockbuster.
Aside from that, Downey Jr. also posted a comment on Reddit when he was asked about the possibility of 'Iron Man 4', "Sooner than later the Marvel Roster will be made public and all questions will be answered," the actor teased.
On another note, Downey Jr. stated that he would be open in returning for 'Iron Man 4' if his friend Mel Gibson would direct it.
Gibson, who directed critically acclaimed movies 'The Passion of the Christ' and 'Braveheart' was previously involved in a case of domestic violence back in 2010 relating to his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
Downey Jr. stated that amidst all the scandals that Gibson has gone through, he insisted that Gibson remains to be a "gifted storyteller and a director."
"Nobody should make a case for somebody who just wants forgiveness but hasn't changed, but he's a fundamentally different guy," he explained.
"I think it was just the very worst aspects of somebody's psyche being treated as though they were the blanket statement about a person," the 49-year old actor continued.
Downey Jr. stated that he and Gibson reflect each other in several ways.
"He has changed, but at the same time he's still Mel. He and I are so similar in so many ways. He really, honestly is the first to admit his character defects and also is just a great, great collaborative guy," he adds.
However, it is unlikely that Gibson will be directing 'Iron Man 4', so many assumed that was just a little humor.
Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr. is slated to play the "genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist" in the highly anticipated 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' which releases May 1, 2015.
