Iron Man 4 Release Date, Cast Rumors: Robert Downey Jr. Replaced By Actor Colin Farrell?

Rumor has it that the current Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr, may die in the upcoming Avengers 2: the Age of Ultron film, which will result in a new metal suitted hero appearing in the fourth Iron Man installment. Fans hope to catch the proposed Iron Man 4 movie in theaters sometime before the year 2018.

Speculation about Robert Downey Jr's replacement as the Iron Man concerns issues of age; in 2018 he will be 53 years old.

He told The Edge, admitting that he can't reprise the same role forever.

"The smart money is you have to look at everybody's age. I'll put myself at the top of the list. Sooner or later, they've got to start over and get somebody young. I'm not there with them yet," he said.

Polls on whoever may be the top candidate to replace Downey resulted in excitement over the 38-year old actor Collin Farrel.

According to the website hosting the poll, "Farrell has a strong resemblance to Downey's Stark, filling out a suit nicely and working a very similar hair style."

But of course, there always stands a chance that some fans will not adapt to the idea. Downey's revered performance in the films as the iron clad champion, makes it potentially impossible to cast another as the genius/billionaire/playboy/philanthropist character which many say, fits him so perfectly.

Although the long list of replacements in not entirely disappointing, Farrell and 16 other actors make the mark including, Edward Norton, Matt Damon, and George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Jamie Dorman, and Robert Pattinson.

As the openining for a new Iron Man remains uncertain, Robert Downey Jr. stands confirmed for his part in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, coming to theaters May 1, 2015.
