Iron Man 3 To Break $1 Billion This Weekend? See How This Might Be Possible
The Marvel-Disney sequel Iron Man 3 has been dominating the box office domestically and world wide since its release a few weeks back.
Some are saying that the blockbuster action movie could surpass $1 billion in ticket sales by the end of this weekend. Could it really be possible?
As of yesterday morning, Iron Man 3 had made just under $741 million world wide. In the U.S. on weekdays, the movie is averaging over $10 in sales and more than that in foreign markets.
So it is safe to say that going into the weekend tonight it will be just under $800 million. So that leaves just over $100 million to get in the U.S. and over $100 million to get internationally by Sunday night.
That seems pretty attainable as the only big new movie coming out this weekend is The Great Gatsby, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and the newest film adaptation based on the famous book. Gatsby should do well at the box office, but would not overtake sales enough to slow down Iron Man 3 to under $200 million worldwide for the weekend.
Iron Man 3 is not just hype either, the movie is delivering. Great reviews have come in for the movie and the positive fan reaction has been spreading the word and encouraging others to go check out the film for themselves.
With the success of The Avengers paving the way into the mainstream market, it has opened up bigger successes for movies like Iron Man.
Robert Downey Jr. also proves again that he has what it takes to deliver on a lead role and straight into top box office success.
Iron Man 3 opened up with the second highest grossing weekend ever behind The Avengers of last year.
Will Iron Man 3 hit $1 billion in sales by the end of the weekend? Predictions say yes, what do you think?
