IPL 2014 Schedule, Live Stream, Remaining Games: Competition Intensifies With Knockout Phase Nearing
The Pepsi Indian Premier League (IPL 7) is witnessing intense competition, with just a little over a week left of the regular fixtures and the knockout stage to begin.
Favorites Kings XI Punjab and two-time champions Chennai Super Kings are at the top of the points table with 16 points each from 10 and 11 games respectively. On the other hand, defending champions Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils are placed in the seventh and eighth positions with four and six and four points from 10 and 11 games respectively.
Nevertheless, with a whole week of matches remaining before the knockout, there are enough possibilities for a reshuffle in the points table, as all sides trying their best to secure a place in the top four for the play-offs. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi - the last three teams in the table, are already out of reckoning. (The points table above talks all about this).
Thus far, we have watched Punjab providing most of the batting fireworks in this tournament and are placed at the top of the points table - thanks to their superior run-rate and more wins.
The team has scored over 200 runs in an innings on three occasions, and in one occasion, it scored enormous 231 to triumph over Chennai. This is the biggest score of the tournament so far.
On the other hand, Punjab have also chased down the biggest total in the tournament as they won with eight balls to spare in chasing a target of 205 runs set by Sunrisers Hyderabad last Wednesday.
Punjab's new recruit Glenn Maxwell has been the star batsman so far in IPL 7, joining an elite group of players to reach 500 runs in one tournament.
While Chennai led by India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is also assured of a place in the play-offs, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders are currently ranked third and fourth in the league table, but need to ensure that they win more matches to ensure a berth in the knockouts, as the Bangalore are following them closely.
