iPhone 6 vs iPhone 5S Comparison, Specs Review: Screen Size, Camera and Battery Life Overview

After Apple unveiled the iPhone 6, techies noted how it differs from iPhone 5s in terms of design, screen quality, camera, battery capacity, and hardware.

DESIGN

The iPhone 6 features a significantly revamped design, but it's still easily recognizable as an iPhone.

Since the release of iPhone 4, Apple has followed almost similar design patterns for the latter models. The new iPhone 6, however, will not have a design truely similar to the previous models.

The iPhone 6 is slimmer and rounder compared to iPhone 5s. The iPhone 6's round edges give a more comforting and inviting feel to the phone, as opposed to the chamfered edges and blocky shape of the iPhone 5s.

"With its curved aluminum edges and all-metal back, it actually brings to mind the original iPhone. Even the glass screen has a slight curve at the edges, which feels pleasant against your hand in a way that the sharp edges of the iPhone 4 and 5 (iPhone 5c excluded) series never quite did," a report deduced.

In terms of other physical dimensions, the new iPhone is taller, wider and heavier by around 17 grams compared to iPhone 5s.

SCREEN

The iPhone 6 will feature a 4.7-inch screen, which is much bigger compared to the 4-inch screen of iPhone 5s.

Despite the increase in screen size, Apple did not change the screen's resolution by much. The pixel density for the both phones remains at 326 PPI even though iPhone 6's screen has a resolution of 1334 X 750 pixels while the iPhone 5S has a screen with 1136 X 640 pixels resolution.

Quality wise, the iPhone 6 has better screen since it has a contrast ratio of 1400:1 which should make it look brighter than the iPhone 5s screen that has a contrast ratio of 800:1.

In addition to this, Apple has also incorporated a dual-domain pixel technology to iPhone6 which should make the colors look more vibrant.

CAMERA

Although still listed at 8-megapixels like iPhone 5s, iPhone 6's camera is reported to be improved since its sensor is more sensitive. The new sensor uses what Apple calls "focus pixels" which allows for faster autofocus.

The iPhone 6's camera supports 43MP panoramas, 1080p video, slow motion video at either 120fps or 240fps, and has an Apple-made image processor on the A8 chip which allows for faster face, smile and blink detection.

Apple has also improved the Facetime camera, which is now a Facetime HD camera.

HARDWARE

In terms of hardware, iPhone6 is powered by A8 processor, while iPhone 5s runs on A7 chip. The A8 processor on iPhone 6 makes the phone 25 percent faster in general computing, and 50 percent faster in graphics processing.

Both phones have dual core and 1GB RAM, and support 64-bit computing.

BATTERY LIFE

The new iPhone is expected to have a better battery life compared to iPhone 5s since Apple claims that A8 is 50 percent more power efficient compared to A7.

To summarize, Apple made improvements in the different features of iPhone 6, but the significant update over the iPhone 5s is found in its design and screen size.
