iPhone 6 Rumors and Release Date: Skipping 5S According to Former Apple Ad Man?
It's that time of year when Apple fanboys are drooling over iPhone 6 speculation. According to some reports the iPhone 6could be released as early as June, skipping the iPhone 5S altogether.
Former Apple Ad man, Ken Segall thinks Apple hurt their brand with the iPhone naming system and would have been better off if they never released an iPhone 4S. Ever since the iPhone 3GS was released in 2009, many smartphone consumers associate the "S" name with "minor changes" that are essentially not worth the money.
Segall explains: "More important, tacking an S onto the existing model number sends a rather weak message. It says that this is our "off-year" product, with only modest improvements. If holding off on the big number change achieved some great result, I might think otherwise."
He compares the Apple naming theory to buying a new car.
"If you're looking for a new car, you're looking for a 2013 model - not a 2012S. What's important is that you get the latest and greatest."
Though Segall's opinion really doesn't mean anything in terms of the next iPhone release, many believe Apple can't afford to release an iPhone with minor updates.
With the growing success of the Samsung's Galaxy series (Galaxy S4 release only weeks away) and the HTC One X now available on pre-order, Apple will need to offer more than an "S" level upgrade in order to stay ahead of the competition.
