iPhone 5 vs. Galaxy S3 vs. Galaxy Note 2: Does Size Matter?

The Apple iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 are all exceptional smartphones. But if you're new to the cell phone game or in need of a new phone there are a few key differences that could sway your decision.

The most noticeable difference between the three phones is display size. The Galaxy Note 2's display is much larger at 5.5-inch with 1280 x 720 resolution. The Galaxy S3 boasts a 4.8-inch (1280 x 720 resolution) display while the Apple iPhone 5 is the smallest at 4 inches (1136 x 640).

The Note 2 also comes with an S Pen that allows users to write on screen. Also featured on the Galaxy S3, the Note 2 features Multi-Window view which let's users use two apps at once. Multi-Window View is not on the Apple iPhone.

Design and dimensions are also a big selling point. Consumers are very particular about how their phones fit in their pockets. The iPhone 5 (4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches / 3.95 ounces) is the lightest and thinnest of the three. The Galaxy S3 (5.38 x 2.78 x 0.34 inches / 4.69 ounces) is marginally larger than the iPhone 5. The Note 2 (5.94 x 3.17 x 0.37 inches / 6.42 ounces)

A good rule of thumb is to check with a retailer or friend and feel the phone for yourself. Everybody's preference is a little different.

The Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 also have plastic backs that pop off, letting users switch batteries or add storage. An extra 32GB is only $20.
