iPad Spelling Doom for Microsoft? Gates vs Apple with iOS
Did you think the tablet would be a fad?
Well, it still could be since it is only still a few years old, but so far they are really paying off.
As of now, iPads are outselling Macs 6 to 1 and are becoming more and more popular for their portability and of course their price tag.
So why is this bad for Microsoft exactly besides shear sales? Well, Gates has made its Office Suite software for the Mac OS since committing to it in 1984. However, Gates and Microsoft chose not to work with Mac on iOS as they saw giving iOS the Office software that it would give Apple a competitive edge.
This might sound like a shrewd business move in the short run, however, in the long run it will force people to become less dependent on Office software and switch to using others like Pages, Keynote and Numbers when on an iPad or Google Docs, Sheets and Slides when on an Android device.
Office has always been the cash cow for Microsoft and until a few years ago it just to be the standard that we would see on every computer, but that time has come and gone and Gates is taking a big risk holing Office for only their products.
Eventually this could take away so many users away from Office that it becomes irrelevant after dominating the area for so long.
Do you think this is a smart business move or a blunder for Gates and Microsoft?
