iOS 8 vs Android L Comparison: Review of Features, Apps, Design - Which Operating System is Better?
There's a heated competition between Apple Inc. and Google, as they both recently released their latest Operating Systems: iOS 8 and Android 5.0 (Lollipop) this year. But with these new releases out on the market and in the upcoming new phones, which OS is better?
For the iOS 8, it has new ways of creating text messages as you can now add your voice to your text messages before you send them. Additionally, you can also add a video of what you're currently seeing along with sharing your location in the text message so whoever you're texting will know exactly where you are and what's going on.
Another new app that came with the iOS 8 is the "Design" app. With the Design app, you can create shortcuts of social media, messages, invitations, and calendar notifications so that you don't have to exit the app at all; everything will notify you all at once. This makes it easier for you to respond without having to stop doing what you were doing.
Also, iOS 8 has a new keyboard. It's now easier to type your messages, mail and so on with the new keyboard. It suggests the appropriate words for you to select from, making it easier and less time consuming to type out the word itself to complete your sentences. Not only that, it can also recognize who you're typing to and whether you're using Messages or Mail. It makes a big difference because a person's tone in an email may be different to his/her tone in a text message.
Family Sharing is also a brand new app that iOS 8 introduces. As Apple indicated that "Family Sharing is a new way to bring harmony to your family's digital life." Up to six people in your family can share various purchases from iTune, iBooks and the App Store without having to share accounts. You can also pay for family purchases with the same credit card and approve of children's spending right from a parent's iPhone or iPad. You can also share photos, a family calendar, and much more to keep the family connected.
Health is important to everybody and because of that importance; Apple has developed the Health app in the new iOS 8. The Health app collects and records your health data and gives you a clear and current overview of your health. You can also create an emergency card with important health information such as your allergies and your medical condition.
These are just a few features that iOS 8 has to offer. Now let us see what Android Lollipop has in store for users.
Officially released on October 15, Android Lollipop will be available first on the Nexus 9 tablet which has been on sale since November 3rd. The Lollipop material design will appear on every Google platform, not just Android. Everything animates as you tap it, objects flying into view and tapped icons rippling like puddle. The interface keys are now simple shapes, unlike previous versions of Android.
The home screen, lock screen, setting pull-down menu, main settings page and even onscreen navigation buttons have received a makeover, making it attractive. Lollipop also includes new system widgets to match the design scheme. Also, more apps will be updated every week, with Google Play Books being the first. It joins Gmail, Google+, Google Play newsstand and Google Chrome.
The notifications system has been overhauled as well. With the Lollipop, users will now be able to respond to or dismiss notifications instead of having to unlock their device to check. They will appear like cards, which can be scrolled through instead of flooding the screen. This is a whole new level of convenience as well as time-saving. You'll also be able to manage your notifications better in Lollipop by preventing almost all notifications from appearing.
Aside from its stylish design, Android L also comes with a few new features that many Android users will love. One such feature is personalization. It makes your Android smartphone or tablet search for familiar Bluetooth gadgets, Wi-Fi networks, locations and even voice imprints to deactivate any lockscreen protection, allowing you to get straight access to your phone when it senses a signal nearby. If it can't detect any of these however, anyone attempting to use it will get the standard lockscreen
The keyboard will also be updated, adding more personalization to you. Each letter will be on a flat background which should make it easier for people with larger fingers to type faster. There is also a "Do Not Disturb" mode. This automatically deactivates all notifications and audio during set times, support for Bluetooth 4.1 and a completely redesigned Audio backed with support for USB audio devices.
Battery life is also improved with the new Android L. Google says that a Nexus 5 running on Lollipop can get around 90 minutes of extra use over the course of a typical day without actually changing how the person uses the phone.
With these new improvements it may be difficult to choose which OS to side with. However, since both operation systems bring some stellar features, only the user can make the right decision.
