iOS 8 Download Problems: Errors Encountered By Users, Update Problems - Quick Fix Tips
Apple has finally released its newest operating system, iOS 8, which is now available for download via over the air (OTA), or through iTunes. Unfortunately for users, servers have encountered multiple problems updating iPhones and iPads, which may be attributed to all the traffic since its debut.
Upon iOS 8's availability online at 1 pm on September 17, downloaders have difficulty installing the update especially on relatively slow Wi-Fi connections. The update usually takes an hour to two hours, which is pretty long, not to mention the amount of required local storage space needed for the data.
iOS 8 needs at least 5 GB of free space before installing more than 1 GB worth of update. This might pose difficulty for users who need to clear space on their Apple devices before the upgrade, though this can be remedied by downloading iOS 8 direct from iTunes store, reported Mirror UK.
Gotta Be Mobile shared installation and restoration problems encountered when using iTunes to download iOS 8. According to the report, after downloading the update, iTunes is not able to restore the iPad. However, a support link is provided on the prompt message, but Apple did not provide solutions as to how to solve the bug.
As a solution, experts suggest to download the large file first before manually restoring the device. It is also advised to manually setup a backup to prevent data loss if the installation process fails.
Aside from the reported difficulties in updating iPhones and iPads to iOS 8, Apple has included a number of useful features and apps. This includes a redesigned messaging platform similar to WhatsApp, a new Health app, QuickType (which is similar to Android's SwiftKey), improved photo editing capability, and much more.
