'Insurgent' Release Date, First Trailer, Spoilers: New Teaser Video for Upcoming 'Divergent' Series Installment

The production team behind the upcoming film 'Insurgent', which is the sequel to the movie 'Divergent' in the trilogy, has officially launched the first teaser trailer. The trilogy of films has been adapted from the novel series by the same names written by Veronica Roth.

In the new trailer video, protagonist Tris is showcased trying to save her mother, Natalie Prior, who's played by Ashley Judd. However, for those who've seen the first movie in the series, 'Divergent', know that Tris' mother is actually dead.

This means that the sequence of scenes shown in the teaser trailer fall beyond the boundaries of reality and actually take place in some dream like fantasy type place.

Considering this is the first trailer that has been released for the upcoming film, some might find it strange that it would showcase a scene that's not actually in the film's universe. However, some are of the view that the importance of Tris' feelings is being stressed in the trailer, foreshadowing some important tones to look out for in 'Insurgent'.

On a side note, fans can recall that Tris had to deal with some tragic losses and heartbreaking events in 'Divergent', therefore it might make sense that those feelings would carry over into the sequel.

According to Hypable the official synopsis reads that Tris and Four are on the run as they are "hunted by Jeanine (Kate Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris' family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them.

It goes on to add, "Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world."

'Insurgent' premieres March 20, 2015, and it stars Shailene Woodley (Tris), Theo James (Four), Kate Winslet (Jeanine).
