'Guardians of the Galaxy' star Chris Pratt has made an attempt to take on the lead role for the upcoming 'Indiana Jones 5' film, however, reports claim that 'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson has thrown his hat into the ring as well. The new film still has not had its release date confirmed, but once a lead actor is confirmed, many believe the production will begin moving forward quickly and a precise premiere date will be chosen soon after.

Reports also say that Bradley Cooper, of 'Wedding Crashers' fame, is also in the running for the lead role.

"There's also been rumors of a complete reboot, with Indiana Jones being recast. If that were to happen... well, you have to imagine someone like Pratt would be at the top of the list," according to Fandango.

It would seem that Pattinson stands a good chance to land the role as a source from Showbizspy said that he is on the shortlist "because he has showed his acting stripes away from 'Twilight.' But the competition will be stiff."

"Disney is looking at its long-term options for the Indiana Jones franchise. They feel that the series has huge potential on many levels, starting with the films leading to other spin-offs like games which can generate more money than movies," the source added.

In addition, 'Star Wars' veteran Harrison Ford, who played Indiana Jones for three decades, is also working on a film with Disney.

"Regarding Harrison Ford, two more Indiana Jones features are in the negotiation stages as per Ford's contract clause on Star Wars, which is the primary reason he didn't 'publicly' or 'privately' commit, or so I'm told," said a source from MarketSaw in February.

'Star Wars' and 'Indiana Jones' are two films that Ford could be proud of, but as of now he has to choose which one he will stick with as both production dates would conflict from each other.

"I'm just delighted to be involved. We haven't started filming yet but we have a great script and a wonderful cast," he previously said in an interview, "J.J. Abrams is a director at the top of his game and I'm looking forward to it. It'll be great fun."

As for the release date, they are going to announce it over the next few months.
